A Rare Antique 15th Century End Timber From The Roof Of Holy Trinity Church, c.1485.

This beautiful piece of wood comes from the roof of one of the Holy Trinity Churches in Yorkshire, dating back to the late 15th century.

It was removed during restoration works sometime in the 19th or early 20th century which is when the inscription was added to it.

Research suggests that this may very well be from the Holy Trinity Church on Goodramgate in York, which I will attempt to confirm.

The building dates chiefly from the fifteenth century, but has features from its foundation in the twelfth century right up to the nineteenth century.

It was enlarged in 1823 when the north side was rebuilt. The south porch was added in 1849. The condition of the building was poor by 1882 and regular worship was suspended for over 50 years until 1937 when restoration work was completed. The oak rafters were renewed and the roof was restored. The pier supporting the arches between the nave and north aisle were underpinned with concrete, and the decaying stonework on the south aisle walls was renewed.

Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound with lovely patina.
