A Very Rare Heavy Antique 19th Century Prison Cell Master Key Charles Smith Sons & Co Birmingham. It Is Engraved To One Side With The Wording “Master Key Cells No.2” And To The Other, The Maker’s Name Of “Charles Smith Sons & Co Birmingham”.
Charles Smith & Co. Ltd. of Birmingham were specialists in the making of Jail Cell locks in the mid/late Victorian period and their keys tended to have decorative bow designs.
It’s Quite Haunting To Think Of Whose Cells This Key Might Have Opened…!
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. Good clear engravings.
