A vintage woodcarving practice piece or a study block for learning facial sculpting dating to the second half of the 20th century. The block of wood shows different stages of carving, with some areas still in the sketching phase and others more developed into facial features.
The left side of the block displays progressively detailed carvings, moving from rough geometric shapes to more refined facial structures. The right side has sketched outlines of faces, indicating the initial planning phase before carving begins. This type of piece is commonly used by sculptors and woodcarvers to practice proportions, depth, and technique.
It now works as a wonderful piece of decorative art!
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. Some little splashes of white paint and some staining to the back left corner. But decent overall. Displays very well.
