A Wonderful Original Antique 18th Century Framed Broadside for A 1795 Auction Of Cattle In Shropshire.
These were single-sheet printed advertisements or announcements, typically displayed in public places like markets, taverns, or church noticeboards. They were important tools for spreading local news and events before newspapers were widespread in rural England.
This is a charming example and sweetly describes the cows as being “…well known in that neighbourhood to be excellent milkers…” It is also signed to the bottom right hand corner.
A lovely piece of social history.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Some age related discolouration, but overall very good.
