A Charming Antique Victorian Love Token Treen Box, More Than Likely A Marriage Gift.
It has metal studs and two very old black and white photographs enclosed in two metal oval frames on the lid.
The photos are of George Fletcher (the giver) to a lady called Louisa Hatfield and the date given as a gift was on the 24th September 1863, 161 years ago.
If you turn the box upside down, you will see the handwritten inscription from George to Louisa.
I wonder if George had enclosed something special in the box when he presented the box to Louisa way back in 1863…
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. I have found a replacement key, but it’s rather temperamental, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. The previous owner has lined the box with some horrible replacement cloth. The photos to the lid are time worn and faded, but can still be made out.
