A Superb Antique Tramp Art Casket With Gilt Regal Decorations, Green Velvet Panels To The Outside And Red Velvet Interior, Dated 1900.
Tramp art is a woodworking style in which small pieces of wood, primarily from discarded cigar boxes and shipping crates, are whittled, notched, and assembled into layers with geometric patterns. It was popular between 1870 and the 1940s, when production started to wane.
This is a superb example and has a very regal look to it. It has the initials ‘K.K’ to the front, along with a gilded floral bouquet to the front centre and the date of 1900 just below. It has gilded lion handles to the front and either side, as well as two gilded crowns to the back. It has gilded decoration to the top and a lovely pitted mirror on the inside.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound and functions well.
