A Disturbing Looking Antique 18th Century (Possibly Even Earlier) Early Composition (Almost Like Solidified Leather) Witches Doll Head On Later Stand, Consisting Of A Coffin Nail On A Wooden Base. A Very Macabre Looking Piece. You Can Smell The Age And See Remnants Of The Original Paint Too.

Composite Witches’ Heads Visually Reinforced The Idea That A Witch Was Not A Whole Or Rational Person, But A Chaotic Accumulation Of Vices. They Were Often Portrayed In Grotesque Or Crude Form With Featureless Faces (Suggesting Loss Of Humanity) And Were Sometimes Hidden In Walls, Chimneys, Or Under Hearths.
