A Fabulous Rare Antique 16th-17th Century Carved Puritan. The Carving Is Quite Superb.

The Puritans were a group of English Protestants in the 16th and 17th centuries who sought to “purify” the Church of England from what they saw as lingering Catholic practices. They believed the Church had not gone far enough in reforming itself after breaking from the Roman Catholic Church.

They emerged in the late 1500s as part of the English Reformation. Facing persecution under English monarchs (especially under King James I and Charles I), many Puritans emigrated to the New World in the early 1600s.

Condition is good, commensurate with age. Structurally sound. Small loss to top of hat.
