A Rare Early 19th Century Irish Rummer With Engraved Arms Of The Chatterton Baronets, Castle Mahon, County Cork. The Glass Was Property Of Sir James Chatterton.
Sir James Charles Chatterton, 3rd Baronet (1794–1874), was a distinguished British Army general and veteran of the Napoleonic Wars. He commanded the 4th Dragoon Guards and received several high honours during his career. He held a highly visible military and ceremonial role during Queen Victoria’s Coronation in 1838. He was presented with a special gold medal in recognition of his participation and service during the event
At the Duke of Wellington’s state funeral in 1852, by Queen Victoria’s personal order, he carried the Great Banner in the procession as a mark of honour for his long and faithful military service.
