A Wonderfully Primitive Trio Of Antique 18th/19th Century French Rat de cave candleholders

Used throughout France in the 18th and 19th centuries for lighting in wine cellars. The distinctive "rat's tail" at the top, was traditionally used for holding the candlelight, whilst going down into the cellar and also for hanging up on the wine cages.

Lovely wrought iron spiralled sticks on beautiful age worn wooden bases. Plenty of aged patina and wear on all candleholders. The smallest of the three has lost half its base and another has a small piece missing from its base too. But this, along with the old candle wax makes this trio an interior designer’s dream. They display so well! They will add character to any room.

Measures: Tallest one stands at 22cm high & the smaller two stand at 19cm and 18cm respectively.

Weighs: 750 grams combined.
