This 19th Century Stirrup Cup, Carved From Polished Horn And Finished As A Gentleman’s Riding Boot, Reflects The Rituals Of Victorian Travel And Country Hospitality. Designed To Be Used While Mounted With One Foot Still In The Stirrup, It Held A Small Measure Of Port, Sherry, Or Brandy Offered As A Parting Gesture Before A Journey Or Day’s Ride.

The Boot Form, Popular In The Mid 1800s, Symbolised Readiness, Mobility, And The Manners Of The Sporting Era Without Reference To A Specific Pursuit. Horn Was Valued For Its Strength And Smooth Finish, Making These Cups Both Practical And Durable For Outdoor Use.

More Than A Drinking Vessel, A Stirrup Cup Marked A Moment Of Transition: From Hospitality To Departure, From Stillness To Motion. Today, Pieces Like This Survive As Evocative Artefacts Of 19th Century Craftsmanship And Social Ritual.

Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound.
