A rare large early 18th century carved walnut ecclesiastical stamp, used to create an official impression, likely in a soft material like bread. The circular matrix bears a Latin inscription. I have tried to decipher it and some of it might suggest that it relates to ‘the Brotherhood of the Order of Saint Didianus, Rome’…?

Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. Has a lovely age related patina with some discolouration and chips to the rim. Wonderful clear impression to the circular matrix.
