A handsome early antique primitive treen yarn swift or skein winder, a tool used in the 18th century for winding yarn into skeins. The holes along the arms suggest that pegs could be inserted to adjust the size of the skein being wound.
It may have once been mounted on a base or a spindle, allowing it to rotate freely while yarn was wound off a spindle or bobbin. The X-shaped structure is typical of umbrella swifts or table-mounted skein winders.
It has a wonderful patina and displays magnificently on the wall as a decorative interiors piece.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. Some areas of age related wear. Please study photos.
