A Fabulous 19th Century Potichomania Glass Witch Ball. An Interesting Piece Of Victoriana, This Witches Ball Has Been Hand Blown And Then Powdered Paint Applied To The Inside Giving A Colourful Vibrant Look.
Historically, witches balls were hung in cottage windows to ward off evil spirits, witches, evil spells, ill fortune and bad spirits.
According to folk tales, witches balls would entice evil spirits with their bright colours; the strands inside the ball would then capture the spirit and prevent it from escaping.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. Some wear to the inner paint work. Please see photos.
