A vintage 1950’s educational biology board. It shows the cross-section of a leaf (frunză, secțiune) from Ranunculus (known as buttercup, “piciorul cocoșului” in Romanian). The model itself is made of rubber with the various sections numbered. The board has two foldout legs to the back allowing it to stand independently.

The list represents the main anatomical parts of the leaf, labeled for study purposes:

  1. Cuticula – Cuticle (waxy protective layer)
  2. Epiderma – Epidermis (outer cell layer)
  3. Stomata – Pores for gas exchange
  4. Camera substomatică – Substomatal chamber (air space beneath stomata)
  5. Țesut palisadic – Palisade tissue (photosynthetic cells)
  6. Țesut lacunar – Spongy tissue (loosely arranged cells with air spaces)
  7. Nervură – Vein (vascular bundle)
  8. Vase lemnoase – Xylem vessels (transport of water and minerals)
  9. Vase liberiene – Phloem vessels (transport of sugars)
  10. Grăunțe clorofilă – Chlorophyll grains (chloroplasts)
  11. Fascicul libero-lemnos – Vascular bundle (combined xylem + phloem)

This teaching aid was used in a biology classroom to teach plant anatomy.

Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Some scuffs and small losses to the wooden surround board and paper label.

Measures 55cm x 30cm x 8.5cm
