A Wonderful Antique 19th Century Victorian Cast Iron Door Porter In The Form Of Medusa.

It features a Medusa head with writhing snakes forming her hair, and entwined serpents creating the handle at the top. It stands on a moulded base, and the design incorporates foliate elements around the Medusa mask.

Door porters like these were used to hold open heavy doors in grand houses during the Victorian era. This example is from the Falkirk Iron Company, a Scottish foundry established in 1810 and known for its cast iron products, including door stop.

Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound.

Measures 27.5cm x 25cm x 10cm

Weighs 3800 grams
