A 375 Year Old Trade Token From Britain’s Most Haunted Pub, ‘The Golden Fleece’, In York.
In the mid-17th century, a shortage of small coins in England led tradesmen, innkeepers, and merchants to issue their own tokens for local use, often redeemable for goods or services at their establishments.
The Golden Fleece in York was first recorded in 1503, when its cellar was allegedly used to store the bodies of executed criminals. Today, it is considered the most haunted pub in the UK, reportedly home to five ghosts.
Guests and staff have reported bed covers being torn away and sensations of unseen hands around their necks.
And, there’s no doubt this token will have witnessed some action!
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. Some age related wear.
