A Curious Relic of Victorian Natural History.
This fine late 19th century specimen presents a natural dried sea horse, carefully preserved and housed within its original c.1890 silk-lined presentation case.
During the Victorian era, such objects were collected with fascination, reflecting both the period’s scientific curiosity and its taste for the exotic. Seahorses, rarely encountered outside of coastal regions, were prized as natural wonders and often exchanged as keepsakes, conversation pieces, or elements of “cabinet of curiosity” displays.
Condition is good, commensurate with age. Structurally sound.
