A fine example of an antique 19th-century Masonic stoneware whisky jug, skillfully shaped like a Mason’s mallet and richly decorated with Masonic symbols.
The jug is made from salt-glazed stoneware, likely English or American in origin and dates from the mid to late 1800s. The body is adorned with prominent Masonic iconography: the Square and Compasses, columns (Boaz and Jachin), the blazing sun, moon, stars, the all-seeing eye, level, plumb line, and trowel.
These symbols represent moral rectitude, enlightenment, duality, and the tools of both operative and speculative masonry.
Its mallet form directly references the Mason’s gavel, a symbol of the authority of the Worshipful Master and the shaping of character through discipline. Such jugs were often commemorative or ceremonial, sometimes presented as lodge gifts or used at festive boards.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. No signs of Chips or cracks.
