This Is An Antique Georgian, Hand-Blown, Boot Glass Or Stirrup Cup, Dating From The Late 18th Century, c.1770.
Such Glasses Were Used To Mock The Earl Of Bute, Prime Minister Of Great Britain From 1762-1763 And The First Prime Minster Of Scotland Following The Act of Union.
Stirrup cups were used when offering a farewell drink to a rider already mounted for departure, with their feet in the stirrups, hence the name, “Stirrup Cup”.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound. No chips or cracks.
