A World War 1 British dummy practice rifle stamped on both sides. Has a lovely patina to the wood.
This wooden dummy rifle was constructed early in the First World War for training purposes. The outbreak of the war initiated a period of rapid expansion for the British Army. Many thousands of volunteers had to be trained and equipped. Shortages of clothing and equipment occurred, as British industry struggled to put itself on a war footing. Rifles were in particularly short supply. While this problem was not permitted to effect soldiers at the Front, those in training were frequently issued with obsolete, non-standard or even dummy weapons.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound.
