A Fascinating Antique World War 1 Shot Flask Engraved With ‘J. Wales Chorwell Leeds’ With An East Yorkshire Regiment Cap Badge Attached To The Base.
Research suggests that ‘J. Wales’ was Lance Corporal John Wales of the 7th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment. He married in 1914 and he enlisted aged 22 in 1915. He was sadly killed on 9th June 1918 on the Somme.
Near the base it is indistinctly marked ‘Sudan’ (see last photo). This may date the flask originally to 1884-85 and the Battle of Khartoum.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound and functions well.
Measures 24cm x 7cm
