This charming antique 18th century hand carved folk art apple corer is crafted from polished bone and beautifully engraved with the date 1755 and the initials A B. Such tools were once essential in the farmhouse kitchen, used to neatly remove the core from apples before baking or drying.
Before metal corers became common, they were often carved from bone, horn, or antler, sometimes by sailors, shepherds, or itinerant workers as pastime crafts. This example features delicate dotted decoration and a subtly shaped handle reminiscent of a lion’s paw.
Initialled and dated examples are being more difficult to find.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound.
