A Small Fragment Of Cloth Said To Date Back To Ancient Egypt’s 18th Dynasty, Around 1350 B.C.
The Label Accompanying It Reads:
“18th Dynasty Ancient Egyptian Genuine ~1350 B.C. Mummy Cloth Fan Bearer to the King”
That period is notable for pharaohs like Akhenaten and Tutankhamun. The reference to a “Fan Bearer to the King” suggests this cloth might be linked to someone of high status, as fan bearers were often important court officials.
This was discovered tucked away within a collection of other antique ephemera.
Research suggests that during the 19th and early 20th centuries, fragments of mummy cloth were often sold as souvenirs to tourists visiting Egypt.
It’s a wonderful piece for a cabinet of curiosities.
Condition is as seen. Discolouration and very fragile.
