A Very Interesting And Intriguing Antique 19th Century Boomerang With Period Handwritten Label. The Handwriting Is Difficult To Decipher.
Boomerangs Were Widely Collected By Explorers, Missionaries, And Anthropologists During The 19th Century. Some Were Inscribed With Handwritten Notes By Collectors—Like This Example—Often Giving Names, Places, Or Dates.
This Is A Non-Returning Boomerang, Used Primarily For Hunting Rather Than Sport. These Were Designed To Fly Straight Or In A Wide Arc To Strike Prey Such As Birds Or Small Animals.
Based On Its Form And Thickness, It’s Likely From New South Wales Or Southern Queensland, Where Heavier Non-Returning Boomerangs Were More Common.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound with areas of age related wear.
