An exceptional 19th century discreet ladies self-defence percussion muff pistol by V & R Blakemore of London and Birmingham, that would have been kept in a hand warmer (muff), bag, or discreet pocket.
Designed for discreet self-defence, it features a compact frame and several ornate details, including a rare elephant shaped hammer, flip-down (folding) trigger, which tucks away into the frame to prevent snagging when concealed in a muff or handbag, a lion head pommel cap and a fine scroll engraving, and checkered grip, with a brass or gilded frame. The barrel is removable for loading/cleaning.
A beautiful example.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound and fully operational with a strong action.
