This printed notice poster, dated 4th August 1828, announces the annual meeting of the Tottenham Park Association, to be held at the White Hart Inn in Burbage, Wiltshire. Such associations were early 19th century rural self defence groups formed by landowners and farmers to protect property, deter crime, and fund the prosecution of offenders, a precursor to modern policing in England.

Printed by Emberlin and Harold of Marlborough and signed by T. B. Merriman, Solicitor, this broadside reflects a period before the establishment of county constabularies (which began in the 1830s). It captures a moment when local communities relied on mutual aid and subscription funds to maintain order in the countryside during times of social and economic unrest.

A striking example of early 19th century legal and social history, this piece offers a tangible link to the origins of organised law enforcement and the concerns of rural England on the eve of major reform.

Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Some discolouration and a period inked correction to the date, but good overall.
