A marvellous antique 19th century advertising brick for “Brown’s Tiptop Stone”.
It’s quite possible that this is a salesman’s sample, especially given its small size, clear branding, and distinctive lettering.
I haven’t been able to uncover any direct references to “Brown’s Tiptop Stone”, however, smaller family-run brickworks often operated informally and left little trace in published records.
A charming piece of advertising which has so much going for it. Its size, its wonderful graphical lettering and its use of the word “Tiptop”! Utterly charming!
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Some little chips and knocks. Chunk missing from just above the ‘N’ and ‘S’ of ‘Browns’.
Measures 9cm x 7.5cm x 3cm
Weighs 314.45 grams
