A Rare Antique Boer War Shrapnel Fragment Pendant Fob With Gold Top Hoop And Cartouche Engraved With “S. Africa 1900”.
There is some speculation that shrapnel fragments, like this one, were removed from injured soldiers and turned into watch fobs or pendants as keepsakes and mementos for the soldiers.
Condition is good, commensurate with age. Structurally sound with lovely patina.
