A Rare And Unusual Antique Memento Mori Coffin Casket Containing An Ancient Terracotta Relic From Babylon Of What Is Believed To Be The Goddess Ishtar. 2000BC-1750BC.

Babylon was one of the most famous cities from any ancient civilisation. It was founded more than 4,000 years ago and was the largest city in the vast Babylonian empire. Babylon became one of the most powerful cities of the ancient world.

Ishtar was the goddess of war, fertility and love, giving her the extraordinary ability to both create life, and to take it away.  Ishtar holds a special historical significance, as she is the earliest goddess in written evidence.

This piece as a whole is full of intrigue and mystery.

You’ll see that the back of casket has a hand written note that reads “From Babylon 1923, For Susan 1935”.

But who found it in 1923? What is the significance of the casket? Why is this ancient relic inside. Why was it given to Susan in 1935?  Who is Susan…?

It’s throwing up far more questions than its giving answers.  A curious and intriguing find indeed…
