A Super Antique Folk Art Scratch Built Wooden Box Made From Pieces Of A Crashed Aircraft In 1919, With Provenance.
It Contains A Sheet Of Aluminium Inside Which Is Engraved And I’ve Done My Best To Decipher It. I Believe It To Read As Follows;
”Part of aeroplane cover of machine which whilst carrying mails from Cologne in Germany to Folkestone, England. On first trip to be made came down at Fesseville, France. Lost route failed to rise through broken propellers April 1919.”
It’s A Fabulous Piece Of History And A Fine Piece For A Collector Of Aviation.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. Structurally sound and functions well. Some small cracks to hinge areas but not serious and doesn’t effect function. Some splits in wood from its scratch built aesthetic. A charming piece.
