Buying & Selling Antiques - Exciting Finds & Regretful Sales

It's 'Blog Post Monday' once again!  Where does time go...!?

Having found some rather exciting pieces of late, it got me thinking about my most treasured finds throughout my antiques career and the absolute regret I've felt when I've sold them.  There have been some pieces which were just so unusual, rare or damn right fascinating, that to this day, I'm still haunted by the regret of letting them go.

I suppose the burning question is, as a dealer, does everything have a price and do you feel obliged to sell?  I've heard some dealers say that a piece is only exciting until the next one comes along.  I've also heard some say that you are only a proper dealer if you are willing to sell a piece, regardless of any emotional attachment....  This week's post is about where I stand on the subject and I'll be having a look back at some of my most regretful sales.

So, as always, get that kettle on, make yourselves comfortable and let me spill my heart out to you as I reminisce about my biggest regrets...

Numerous New Antique Shops Pop Up In York & Across The UK - An Antiques & Collectibles Boom!?

Happy 'Blog Post Monday' to you all!

How has your first post-lockdown antiques forage gone this week?  Mine has been great and very, very interesting.  And I say "Interesting", because I have noticed something on my travels, something very positive!

Now, those of you who have followed me from the very beginning, will remember that I wrote a blog post back in July 2020, highlighting the impact that I thought the pandemic would have on the antiques and collectibles trade.  In that post I also predicted an increase in the popularity of antiques and vintage items, and went as far as to say that an antiques "Boom" was on the horizon!  Well, on my travels this week, I noticed some signs that my prediction may just be starting to happen.

So, as always, get that kettle on, sit back and let me fill you in on what I've seen, and what I think this might mean for the antiques trade.

The Do's & Don'ts Of Haggling In The Antiques & Collectibles Trade

Welcome once again to another instalment of 'Blog Post Monday'.

This week is about the do's and the don'ts of haggling over antiques.  There can be a fine line between insulting and accepting, and I'm going to give you my thoughts on the subject as a collector, an antiques dealer and as someone who has worked in an antiques centre.

So, as always, get that kettle on, get your note pads out and let me tell you what you should, and what you definitely shouldn't do, when buying antiques...

Happy International Women's Day - Thank The Women In Your Life

Another Monday, another blog post!  Welcome to this week's special instalment of "Blog Post Monday".

Whilst sitting down with a brew this week, those Yorkshire tea leaves struck a chord in my brain.  I realised that my life is full, and I mean full, of so many strong, amazing women.  I have far more women in my life than I do men.  And looking back through my life, it's safe to say that it's these strong women who have influenced my path and helped me become the person I am today.

So, with it being International Women's Day today, I thought, what better way to celebrate this than to write about some of the amazing women in my life.  And, I encourage you all to do the same.  Take a moment to think about the women in your life who have had a positive impact on you and why not share those stories.

I'll start by saying a massive thank you to my gang of women.  Thank you for being a positive influence on my life and for your continued love, support and encouragement.  I salute you all!
