Antique Oddities - My Fascination With The Weird & Wonderful

Here we are again! A happy 'Blog Post Monday' to you all!
I have to admit, I've bought a few odd items recently and it got me thinking that I may have a bit of a problem when it comes to antique oddities. They're not always the easiest sellers, it's a very niche market, but I'm just drawn to them every time. I find the weird and the odd so very fascinating. I see them as conversation starters. Who doesn't want odd items in their home to get the chat going? And, to get this conversation started, this week's post is dedicated to some of my most curious of curios.
So, as always, get that kettle on and prepare yourself for a trip into my weird world of antique oddities...
Antiques & Collectibles YouTube Channel - Finds, Fairs, Stories & Reviews

Another warm 'Blog Post Monday' to you all!
I've been writing my blog for over year now, posting every Monday, without fail. Talking everything from interesting finds and awful buys, to shop reviews and trade interviews. I've enjoyed it immensely and I really hope you have too. I will of course be continuing with my weekly blog, however, to tie in with this, I've decided to put some more of my time into working on a Source Vintage YouTube channel.
Like my Blog, I want this channel to be a reflection of me and my personality, and my day-to-day life as an antiques dealer. I'll be telling you about my interesting finds, reviewing antique shops, centres and fairs that I visit, and talking about trade related subjects. If you enjoy your antiques shows, then this might be right up your street. By all means, let me know if there's something you'd like me to talk about or show you, and be sure to subscribe.
So, as always, get that kettle on, turn your volume up and let me take you on a magical mystery tour of my new Source Vintage YouTube channel...
My Victorian Glass & Its Important Scientific & Artistic Link - William Pennington Cocks

A very happy and a very warm 'Blog Post Monday' to you.
You may remember a post from a few weeks ago where I told you about an interesting engraved Victorian glass tumbler I'd found and which I thought may have had an interesting connection and story. Well, I continued my research and there have been some rather interesting developments, and this week's post is a little update on this.
So, as always, get that kettle on, put those feet up and let me fill you in on what I've managed to confirm about this quite astonishing and important little find...
My Worst Ever Antique Buys - Learning The Ropes Of The Antiques & Collectibles Trade

It's 'Blog Post Monday' once again! Welcome, welcome, welcome....
Over the course of the past year I've written a few posts about interesting and exciting finds I've experienced during my time as a collector and dealer. Most dealers like to share stories of their favourite and most fruitful buys, but we're not so forthcoming with the disastrous ones...
Like many of us, I've had my fair share of idiotic buys. But let's be fair, there's just so much to learn when you're starting out in the antiques and collectibles trade, and it's only natural that you should make a few mistakes a long the way. I think they call it "learning the hard way" and by jove, haven't I had my moments! And, for a change, I thought this week I'd be upfront and honest, and share with you some of my worst buys of all time.
So, as always, get that kettle on, settle into your favourite chair and make sure you've got a spare pair of pants to hand, as I regale tales of my most disastrous buys...
A Local's Guide To Buying Antiques & Vintage In York - 2021

Hello, hello! A very happy 'Blog Post Monday' to you all!
Now, it's a special day in parts of the UK. Pubs, bars, restaurants and, most importantly, hotels have re-opened. I give special importance to hotels because it means more visitors for cities and towns, and, hopefully, more customers and business for all of the wonderful antiques shops out there.
In York, my home city, we're lucky to have an abundance of independent vintage and antique shops. In fact, last summer, I wrote a local's guide to fining the best antiques and vintage in York. However, there are a few new additions to York's antique and vintage trail, so I thought, to coincide with this special day of re-opening, I'd write a new guide, a more comprehensive guide, to shopping for antiques and vintage in York.
So, as always, get that kettle on, get those hotels booked and let me guide you through the finest establishments in York for your antique and vintage shopping...
