The Do's & Don'ts Of Haggling In The Antiques & Collectibles Trade

Welcome once again to another instalment of 'Blog Post Monday'.

This week is about the do's and the don'ts of haggling over antiques.  There can be a fine line between insulting and accepting, and I'm going to give you my thoughts on the subject as a collector, an antiques dealer and as someone who has worked in an antiques centre.

So, as always, get that kettle on, get your note pads out and let me tell you what you should, and what you definitely shouldn't do, when buying antiques...

Talking Antiques With The Bidding Room's Very Own Jo Roberts

It's Monday, it's blog post time and I have another guest interview for you!

This week, I was very fortunate to catch up with artist, turned antiques dealer, turned TV star, Jo Roberts!  Some of you will recognise her from BBC antiques show 'The Bidding Room'.

Jo sells at fairs and through her own website - josobjectsofdesire.co.uk - and is heavily involved in the online antiques scene, especially through her Instagram page - @josobjetsd.art .  Her Instagram live chats are a must see, if you haven't already, and her duets with fellow 'Bidding Room' dealer, Adi Higham, are a fun addition.  Jo is simply bursting with creativity and energy, and has a real eye for style.

So, without further ado, let's get down to business.  Get that kettle, kick back and let's find out a bit more about one of 'The Bidding Room's' newest resident experts, Jo Roberts....

Happy International Women's Day - Thank The Women In Your Life

Another Monday, another blog post!  Welcome to this week's special instalment of "Blog Post Monday".

Whilst sitting down with a brew this week, those Yorkshire tea leaves struck a chord in my brain.  I realised that my life is full, and I mean full, of so many strong, amazing women.  I have far more women in my life than I do men.  And looking back through my life, it's safe to say that it's these strong women who have influenced my path and helped me become the person I am today.

So, with it being International Women's Day today, I thought, what better way to celebrate this than to write about some of the amazing women in my life.  And, I encourage you all to do the same.  Take a moment to think about the women in your life who have had a positive impact on you and why not share those stories.

I'll start by saying a massive thank you to my gang of women.  Thank you for being a positive influence on my life and for your continued love, support and encouragement.  I salute you all!

6 Antique Shops To Visit Post Lockdown - My Lockdown Release Hot List

It's that time of the week again!

Welcome to this week's instalment of "Blog Post Monday".  I hope you're all hanging on in there.  I don't know about you, but after the announcements last week about the route out of lockdown, along with a few days of sunshine, I actually feel some hope.  Hopeful that, in the not too distant future, we'll be able to get our "wheeling and dealing" back on and visit some actual antique shops, centres and fairs!

With this in mind, I began thinking about all of the antique shops I've heard glowing reports on, but I haven't yet visited.  So, this week, I thought I'd share with you my "Lockdown Release Hot List" of antique shops I want to visit as soon as Covid allows.  But also, and perhaps more importantly, I want you to get involved here and share with me, and the Source Vintage family, the shops that you rate highly and think we should visit.

So, get that kettle on, get those maps out, and together, let's plan our post lockdown antiques road trip...
