Talking Antiques With 'The Urban Vintage Affair's' Very Own Natasha Francis
I've been chatting to some more industry professionals about the antiques trade. I have been finding out how they got into the trade, their favourite finds and their biggest regrets, and there are also a few words of advice for anyone thinking of getting into the trade.
This week I spoke with super talented Natasha Francis of London based 'The Urban Vintage Affair'. Some of you may also recognise her from new BBC1 antiques show, 'The Bidding Room'.
Natasha has approached the trade in a fresh new way. She's on a mission to inspire a younger generation to shop old over new and to prove that antiques can still work within an urban modern lifestyle.
So, without further ado, here's Natasha...
Talking Antiques With Industry Legend Tim Hogarth
I've been busy catching up with a few industry legends and some new kids on the block (NOT the band!) to give you an insight into the wonderful world of antiques. We find out how they got into the trade, their favourite finds and their biggest regrets, and there are a few words of advice for anyone thinking of getting into the trade. These little interviews will come out over the course of the next couple of months, so remember to follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter (or even better, all three!), to be notified of my new posts.
First up, with over 30 years of experience in the antiques trade, is 'Dickinson's Real Deal's' very own Tim Hogarth.
A Local's Guide To Finding The Best Antiques & Vintage In York
After last week's post (my mini tour of the Red House Antique's Centre) I have been asked by a few of you if there are many other places to find antiques and vintage in the city of York, and whether it is a good place to come for a day or weekend of treasure hunting.
So, with this in mind, I thought it might be a good idea for this week's instalment of my blog to be a mini guide of where to shop for antiques and vintage through the eyes of a local. Some places you may know and others you most certainly won't. But I am certain, without doubt, that this guide will answer your questions and you'll be descending on York in your droves!
My York Antiques Secret - The Red House Antiques Centre
In this weeks instalment, I'm going to let you into a secret. Some of you will have visited before, but some of you won't have. But without doubt, you'll have seen it on TV and you'll recognise the owner. This little, or rather, large, antiques centre is my secret local supplier. It never lets me down. I always leave with something and sometimes far too much! Allow me to introduce you to the BEST antiques centre in York. The Red House, ladies gentlemen... **cue cheering and confetti**
Here's a mini tour of a lovely building and a tremendous centre. If you are into antiques, be sure to pay them a visit next time you're in York, and if you are travelling from a far, you will need a bigger suitcase!! So, get that kettle on, sit back, relax and let me show you around the Red House Antiques Centre in York.
Antiques & Collectibles - York Race Course Car Boot Sale
Well, well, well...! York Race Course Car Boot Sale returned to action on Saturday 8th August, for the first time this year after a very long lockdown. If you are into antiques, curios, collectibles or just like a bargain, then this boot sale is an absolute must. I'm going to stick my neck out here and say it's one of the best in the UK, if not, THE best!
So this week's blog is about the return of this wonderful weekly event and for those of you you who haven't visited before, it will be a little taster of what you can expect if you're planning to. I should point you in the direction of their Facebook page where they post regular updates. Simply type @yorkcarboot into your Facebook search bar to be taken straight there.
